In November of 2010, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began construction of a magnificent building referred to as The Gilbert Temple. Residents in the area have watched this massive structure arise from an alfalfa field to 195 foot 5 story building. The 85,000 square foot building will be open for FREE tours to the general public Monday through Saturday starting January 18th to February 15th. More information about touring this building can be found here. March 1, 2014 will kick off a cultural festival and after a dedicatory service on March 2, 2014 the temple will closed to the public and will be in use to its members for baptismal, marriages, and other ordinances.
Many homeowners worry about traffic, noise, or declining property values as a result of being near one of these religious structures. The buildings and landscapes are well maintained and the visitation of members is meant to accommodate small groups throughout the day rather then large congregations. The temple is also closed on Sunday. There are no bells on the Gilbert Temple. All city, state, and enviromental standards and codes are met during construction. As for property values, The church states that world-wide the presents of a temple in a community helps increase or hold property values even in declining economies. So good news here if have a home nearby.
