Does AgentMatch knowingly violate the REALTOR Code of Ethics?

Does AgentMatch knowingly violate the REALTOR Code of Ethics?I am suggesting that the AgentMatch feature on Realtor.Com possibly could be in violation of  the REALTOR Code of Ethics:

Article 15

REALTORS® shall not knowingly or recklessly make false or misleading statements about other real estate professionals, their businesses, or their business practices. (Amended 1/12)

Here’s why:

It is IMPOSSIBLE to determine and agent or brokers productivity based solely on MLS data. Many times agents share deals, or make sales that are not required to be reported to a listing service

Now the question is this:

Just because a site has “REALTOR” in its name does that mean that they are bound by the Code of Ethics?

I think that we ALL know the answer to that!

Here's my biggest problem...

This feature offers NO benefit to REALTORS, because all agents show up, REALTOR or not. So if the big gun in your zip is NOT a REALTOR the REALTORS loses to someone that doesnt even pay dues.

The edge that agent match is looking for may end up cutting them instead of creating more business...I understand the drive to market and capture biz...The competition is stiff. Not to worry however..those that answer their phone and know their trade go on

I think this is a kind of discrimination. What are the criteria? Who will matched to whom. Are they profiling now Realtors?  Be honest the little guy will be left behind. Even worst if a Realtor loses out to a NON Realtor. Shame on you - NAR! Maybe time to go back as a "Thompson Broker".What the matching mean anyway? Match to what? This should never come alive. Great view on your part Richard.

This is a good point however I think there are too many factors that decides buyer and seller compatabilty so I am not sure how effective this kind of tool will be.

Interesting point indeed...  I think this hits on the duplicitous nature of this product... that NAR & Reatlor.com say one thing, but do another. It's not remotely in harmony with what the REALTOR brand and NAR claim to stand for. Personally, I think it will do a disservice to the public.

Of course this violates what NAR is designed to do on many levels.

What is being missed I think is the end game for the ranking system. Any ranking system devised whether bing, google or some other search engine provides organic returns and advertised returns.

I am sure that they intend to let real estate licensees buy position in the list just like google does. They are looking at this as a money maker at the NAR memberships expense.

Are they owned by "Redspin"? Because that is exactly what they tried to do and failed so miserably.

I'm not sure but the verbiage 'fair' is no where to be seen. I think that if it hides behind the realtor logo, it should had in accordance of realtor rules. Just sayin ....

Richard I do think there will be less members of NAR as time marches on. I have been wondering  'why' after 25 years of being proud to be a REALTOR and questioning that idea now - is that really important anymore.  I don't think so.  That also means that I'd no longer be a CRS or CRB and all the other initials. Gone.  But what is in place is 25 years of solid experience and knowledge and a cliental base that could care less if I'm part of an association or not. Our clients simply want to be taken care in the manner they're accustomed to and expect.  They're our end game - not NAR stuff.  And - there are many sales here that aren't in MLS so they're 'accounting' methods are not correct and mean quite frankly - nothing to me.

This is certainly the hot potato topic of the moment. Haven't heard anyone say they're excited about agent match. Theyre probably try to keep quiet and enjoy the benefits.

Richard--hopefullly Realtor.com can weigh in other factors such as positive feedback from co-op agents to the transaction similar to what everyone does on Ebay to create more of a level playing field

While realtor.com is not obligated by our COE, do we have an obligation to insure that anything about us displayed on the internet be a true represention?

I have to say I am upset learning that the NAR is spending so much money on a revamped Chiacgo headquarters.  It seems ... inappropriate.

http://www.inman.com/2013/11/11/nar-takes-steps-to-build-rockefeller-center-like-headquarters-in-chicago/

When you pair that with the clamp down to get dues by any means necessary and the other commercialization of the brand that members do not feel directly benefit them... well you start wondering...

The Agent Match is problematic on many levels.  Is this what the membership wants?

The issue then is (and I would have to check) can you file an ethics complaint against the board, or an adminstrative person.  I suspect not.  But it is a violation of the  code.

I'm so glad I can sell real estate and NOT have to be a REALTOR! Some of the things they are doing are certainly NOT doing agents any favors.

Consumer's are smart enough to match themselves with an agent...do we really need a site that will have sketchy information...and favor someone because of what.....transactions done?

What about the top agent that had a death in the family and took 4 months off for family matters, so their production numbers are down. How does Agent Match explain that?

I think NOT!
