The MetLife Foundation - NASSP Break-Through School Program has recently honored Sleepy Hollow / Tarrytown High as one of only nine schools in the Nation that delivered "High Academic Achievement Despite Challenges".
The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has, since 2007, honored middle schools and high schools that are either "high achieving or dramatically improved student achievement" while serving large numbers of students that are disadvantaged.
The Sleepy Hollow / Tarrytown High principal Carol Conklin-Spokane also noted in an interview with The Hudson Independent that the school is often visited by other schools who are looking to learn from it's teacher body's ability to teach in extended time blocks, integrate personalized learning, offer open enrollment for honors and AP courses, and to provide for rigerous course work for students new to the U.S. and are just learning English.
Official recognition of the school will come in February 2014 at the NAAP's Ignite 2014 Conference in Dallas, Texas.
