Is Life A Lottery Ticket

Every year about this time we sit down and start to think about our goals for the following year.  However, very few people, maybe 10% will actually sit down and make a list of written goals.  Why is this?  Personally, I think it's because we have failed so many times that we have just given up.  Perhaps you have given up or you know someone that has given up.  After all, "these are cards you have been dealt and you have learned to live with failure."  Someone asked me a very good question the other day.  They said, how many times will you try something before you give up?  If you think about it, giving up is not something we were born with.  God wired us to never give up.  Otherwise, half of us  would crawl from room to room our entire life.  How many babies do you know that attempt to walk, fall down, get back up, fall down again and then eventually give up and symbolically say "what the heck, this walking stuff is for the birds?"  Silly question right.  Of course it is, but we do exactly that every day.

So is life a lottery ticket?  Yes, it is!  We are either born into wealth or poverty, we are born healthy or disabled and we are born into a loving family or we are born into abuse and neglect.  Would anyone chose to be be born poor, neglected, disabled or abused?  Of course not.  It is a fact of life though that many people are.

Here's the good news.  Just because Life dealt us a bad hand doesn't mean we have to lose the game.  As a matter of fact, a common thread that almost all massively successful people have is they were either born into adversity or fell into it through their own doing or through no fault of their own.  Adversity is preparation for greatness.  Maybe the reason these people succeeded at such high levels is because they had to overcome devastating set backs.  Study the lives of Abraham Lincoln, Helen Keller, Bill Porter, Oprah Winfrey just to mention a few.  But forget about the famous achievers, how about you and me.  Everyone reading this has either faced adversity, is in adversity right now or is headed for adversity.  it's part of being human.  Life is not about being knocked down, it's about how quickly you get back up.

So, get up, write down your top 21 goals, write down a detailed action plan to go after those goals and then work every day on your action items like your life depended on it.  And here is my last point, persist without failure just like you did when you were learning to walk.

Like my friend Zig said, I will see you At The Top.
