Here Are the Top 5 Things Today's Buyers Want in their Home

The top 5 things that buyers want in their home are:

1  Media Rooms and Smart Homes

The tech savvy generation who is shopping for real estate today are younger and they grew up with smart phones, apps, and Google searches. They want technology throughout out the home. They want their home equipped with the latest technological capabilities they have grown accustomed to and they want it throughout their home. Forbes states, today's buyers are "transforming an entire property into a "smart home" with automation systems".  Buyers want to watch TV in media rooms with surround sound, large-screen TV's, and the most up-to-date A/V equipment and are foregoing the formal rooms such as the dining room and/or living room.

2  A Large Master Bedroom Closet

Today, the walk-in closet is a must-have on the buyer's list. If necessary, buyers will scale down from a 4 bedroom to a 3 bedroom just to be sure they have the space for that over-sized walk-in closet. It is doubtful a large walk-in closet will ever go out of style.

3  Home Offices

There certainly is the trend to work from home and many companies are encouraging it. We are "always-on". Many buyers typically find themselves tethered to email well into the evening hours and some on the weekend. Many buyers prefer to have one place that is dedicated for their laptops, printers, copier/faxes, and work-related stuff. The trend is for flexibility, to have the office space that can be easily converted back to a bedroom should it be necessary or a separate room near the family room.

4  Hardwood Floors

Most buyers prefer gleaming hardwood floors. It makes a space feel less confined and it gives a nice clean feeling. Many times, in older homes, you can find hardwood floors under the wall-to-wall carpeting. Just take a peek and with simple sanding and polishing it will give it an updated, light look that buyers are looking for.

5  Homes with Open Floor Plans and Efficient Designs

Buyers want an open kitchen with space to spread out and entertain. Today's buyers tend to be less formal and especially want a design that is well laid-out with a spacious island and a walk-in pantry. Many are opting out of formal living rooms and instead are using this flexible space for a first floor bedroom with a full bath. Many buyers are asking for a first-floor bedroom, but don't want to lose the great room space so buyers are looking for design flexibility. Buyers are also looking for less wasted space and homes are being designed without the two-story spaces.

As our society and our culture changes we are seeing more changes in how we live. Today's homes are more practical and reflect the way people live in their family-centered open great rooms and spacious kitchens with with a center island for more casual dining.
