Two songs that sum up the 2013 business year for me!

Two songs sum up the 2013 business year for me. They are: "Those Were the Days My Friend" and "Todo Cambia" (in English "Everything Changes".)

The Themes: "Those Were the Days" is reminiscent of how business occurred during the late 1970's. "Todo Cambia" ("Everything Changes:) speaks to how unrealistic it is to expect business practices to remain the same.

Why: Just for fun, I’ve altered a few of the words in each of the two songs to show how these songs parallel my real estate career:

My version of “Those Were the Days my Friend”….

Once upon a time there was a real estate office where in one day we used to sell a home or two, remember how we laughed away the hours and think of all the great things we would do.

Chorus: Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end, we showed and sold forever and a day. We'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never loose; the real estate market was such that we were sure to have our way. La la la la...

Then the busy years went rushing by us, we lost our starry notions on the way, if by chance I'd see you in the office, we'd smile at one another and we'd say; Chorus: Those were the days...

Just tonight I stood before the office, nothing seemed the way it used to be. In the glass I saw a strange reflection, was that weary woman really me? Chorus: Those were the days...

Take away: Past business practices are not the way business is done todayThe words to the song "Todo Cambia" (Everything Changes) sum up my current business awareness.

In English the words to the song are:

"That which is superficial changes, also that which is profound. One's way of thinking changes; everything in this world changes. The weather changes as the years go by. The shepherd changes his flock and just as everything changes, the fact that I have changed is not in the least bit strange.

The finest diamond changes its brightness as it travels from hand to hand. The bird changes it's nest, as does a lover change the way he feels. The traveler changes his path; even if this proves to be harmful. Just as everything changes, the fact that I have to change shouldn't be the least bit strange. Change, everything changes....

In summary, I am learning new skills, to embrace blogging, to make promoting my client's best interest on the internet a game, to work with the SEO to crawl postings to better rankings... and tomorrow, that too will change! Tomorrow I will be saying of today "Those Were the Days" and know for sure that what changed yesterday, will change again tomorrow because "Everything Changes".

Thanks Mary, for your encouraging words.

The contest doesn't mean that much to me; it was a challenge which made me think!

I learned from that challenge that I need to be in tune to reality: the changes that happen every day. That would include my body-- Oh my God, what discipline it would take to regain the way I looked 30 years ago!

Nora -- Change IS good. Yes, everything does change and as along as you can adapt and embrace, you are far ahead of others who are stuck in the mud. Best to you in 2014....

It wasn't until I tuned in to the words of that song that I really got it Barbara.

However, the best outcome of this posting was that a friend who finds it hard to cope with life, yet does admirably well, saw the posting and magically, things clicked for her.

I wish you could have been in the car with me when she explained how she felt about this posting... God has his ways...

Congrats on the contest! One thing is certain, change will happen.  It's good to keep moving forward.  Sometimes we have to get out of own way to let that happen.  Here's to a great 2014!

Yes, Maria and Jan. For me, it requires a full time commitment to remind ourselves not to fear change.
