Small School Builds A Giant Of A Football Dynasty Behind Coach John Davis
I started playing football when I was eight years old and it didn't take long for me to realize that football was my first love. I jokingly tell my friends that my priorities today are God, Family, Football and then everything else. It became a passion in High School and an obsession by my Senior Year at Northside Christian in St. Petersburg, as I trained in preparation of hopefully earning a scholarship to play College Football. I was fortunate to attend Evangel College in Springfield Mo. and play football. Thirty years later it is still a passion especially now as I watch my son in his junior year play football at Palm Harbor University High School in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Every football player that has ever played this game dreams of a day like this. Today, in Orlando Florida, CCC lines up to face Jacksonville Trinity Christian in Florida's High School Championship game and leading The Marauders of Clearwater Central Catholic is Coach John Davis, a legend of a coach in Pinellas County. After 20 seasons of long hours and sleep-deprived nights, Davis has fulfilled a lifelong dream of coaching in a state championship game. During Davis’ coaching career, he has been considered by many to be an outsider. His approach to operating his program — from attracting elite talent to his playing style — is markedly different from some of his contemporaries. Compared with some of those grizzled veterans, Davis is a renegade. And Davis motivates without a finger in the chest or a rant in the ear. He uses positive reinforcement. He treats his players the way a good boss treats an employee.
CCC and Coach John Davis, as a former football player and the father of a current High School football player here in Pinellas County Florida, I am proud of you and cheering you on to become Pinellas Counties first High School Football state Champion.
