Success & Looking Ahead
"Every success is usually an admission ticket to a new set of decisions"
-Henry Kissinger
As we approach the end of the year, many of us will be beginning to focus on business planning for next month, next quarter, next year, and also looking back on 2013. What did we do right? Did we accomplish some goals and come up short in others? What can we do better in 2014?
If you're making these types of observations and planning ahead, chances are you're on the track to whatever version of 'success' you're seeking. It's important to remember that along the road to success there will be failues, and reaching goals usually brings along a whole new set of decisions and challanges. If your main goals are financial, keep in mind the saying "more money, more problems". When some people get to the point of personal success and feel they can finally say "I made it!" they get blindsided by this phenomenon.
Instead of considering your goals as destinations or end-games, consider each goal & success a stepping stone toward something more. This is how we grow. When you you've reached a point where your business is steady and consistent, perhaps you'll want to take it to the next level - you'll find it a challenge to find ways to streamline your processes and to find new, effective marketing strategies. When you reach your financial goals, perhaps you'll need an assistant or a team to help take it to the next level - this will bring new budgeting and management challenges.
No matter what your goal or whatever mountain you're climbing, there is likely to be a set of challenges waiting for you that you don't yet see. Keep this in mind and look forward to the challenges as opportunities to improve yourself & your business. While you can be sure that success will be an admission ticket to an amusement park of challenges, knowing that in advance can help you skip the lines once you get there.
