A lot of people want to buy a home in the Oakview subdivision of Silver Spring, MD. Why? Mostly because the homes are among the most affordable in Montgomery County, and they are conveniently located just inside the Beltway.
Prices are usually in the mid-$200s for houses that were built in the 1950s. Occasionally, you’ll see a home sold for more than $300,000. Many homes have not been updated but a few houses are being renovated by investors and sold for in the upper $200,000s. (The photo is of a house that had been renovated and I sold for one of my clients.) The average price of a single family home in Montgomery County is around $481,000.
If you are thinking about buying a home in Oakview and would want to see what is currently on the market then go here.
The styles of the homes are usually Cape Cods and colonials, but every now and then there is a split level. They usually have three to four bedrooms and one to two bathrooms. Some houses may not have basements.
Oakview sits inside the corner of New Hampshire Avenue and the Beltway. So owners can get on the Beltway within minutes and head east to Rt. 1 and the University of Maryland, north to Baltimore on I-95, north to Columbia on U.S. 29, or west along the Beltway into Bethesda or down into Virginia.
A major grocery store and a large shopping center are just on the other side of the Beltway, about 500 feet away. Several parks are close by, too, as well as the Sligo Creek and University of Maryland golf courses.
People like living in Oakview because it’s an affordable way to be eligible for Montgomery County schools. If people live just on the east side of the Montgomery County line, many want to move just a bit farther west and take advantage of schools in Montgomery County, which is one of the most highly rated school systems in the country.
The Montgomery County schools slated for Oakview are Roscoe R. Nix for pre-k to 2nd grade; Cresthaven Elementary for 3rd to 5th grades; Francis Scott Key Middle School for 6th through 8th grades; and Springbrook High School for 9th through 12th grades.
