Did you know that there are over 250 golf courses in Phoenix? There's a reason it's considered one of the best places to golf in the world. However, with so many to choose from, how do you know which ones are right for you. Sure you could try all of them if you have the time, but the following four are the ones that should be bumped to the top of your list.
There are no homes lining the golf courses, all you'll see is natural beauty from the surrounding environment. Owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, there's a 10,000 square foot clubhouse as well as two 18-hole championship golf courses – Cholla and Saguaro. While the Cholla course is ideal for target-style golfing, the Saguaro course takes a more traditional approach. Prices range from $75 to $225 depending on when you go and if you're an Arizona resident.
Troon North consists of two 18-hole golf courses – Pinnacle and Monument – that sit at the base of Pinnacle Peak. British Open Champion, Tom Weiskopf, recently worked on renovations that have taken the courses to the next level. While the views make these courses popular, it's also the natural elements thrown in – including giant granite boulders – that make these courses a golfer's favorite spot. Prices range from $129 and up.
With breathtaking views, you can't help but want to gaze around as you play on these golf courses. They offer the 18-hole Champions course, which was designed by Randy Heckenkemper, and the 18-hole Stadium course, which was designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. The Stadium course is the site of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Prices range from $83 and up depending on when you go and if you're a resident.
This 27-hole championship golf course was designed by Homer Flint and Ted Robinson, Sr., and features exquisite views of the Sonoran Desert. With over 6,300 yards of golfing glory, you can't go wrong. The Phoenician has received numerous awards, including being ranked in 2011 by Golf Digest as one of the Top 75 Golf Resorts in America and receiving the 2013 Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor. They are also the site of Arizona's only sand island green.
After knowing about the hundreds of golf courses you're missing out on while you're sitting at your desk at work, don't you think it's time to take some time off, grab your golf clubs, and hit the green? Yes, we thought so, too. Happy golfing!
