They have now begun using an online forum that lets you do just that. Crimemapping.com has begun being used in Schaumburg for more transparency between citizens and the police department.
Once on the site, click on the state and Schaumburg will be shown in the drop down menu. Once the Schaumburg map comes up, there is a 'Crime Types' button (top left) that you can click on to decipher the different codes.
