Motorcycles at Daytona--Small world

By
Real Estate Agent with ERA Beach Ball Realty

Back in the day as they say I raced Harley Davidson motorcycles for the greatest thrill of a young mans life.I rode the 750 KR side valve motors on the dirt tracks all across the country. Then they used Sportster motors destroked  to 750cc. All of a sudden the XR 750 Aluminum motor came out, and what a beauty it was. They still race this motor today albeit a little different.

I am now a realtor in Gulf Breeze, Florida and enjoy talking to bikers as they tell about their trips to Daytona every year.I keep telling myself that I am going to go to Daytona again, but have not made it since 1991.

The last year I raced Daytona was 1972 that ended in a crash with a fellow HD racer Mark Brelsford. It was not a good day for either one of us.But just the other day I was talking to a guy from West Palm Beach about property in Gulf Breeze and he started talking about Daytona and the races. One thing led to another and after swapping names about who he and I both knew we found out we knew most of the same people and raced against each other a time or two. Small world

Thanks for the comment. I raced at Sturgis back in the late 60's when it was a race at the fair ground track and only about 200 people showed up.What a difference today.

I REMEMBER BACK IN '72 WHILE HANGING OUT AT ROEDER'S HOUSE, YOUNG JESS ROEDER WAS RIDING A PLASTIC TOY PEDAL MOTORCYCLE ON THE SIDEWALK AND CONTINUOUSLY CRASHING IT INTO THE CONCRETE STEPS. MRS.(JESSIE) ROEDER POKED HER HEAD OUT THE DOOR AND EXCLAIMED, "DON'T WORRY ABOUT HIM, HE JUST THINKS HE'S LARRY DARR!"
