NAR Has Come to Its Senses:  Agent Match is OUT!!!!!

Realtor logoWhile it did not take long for NAR to rescind the much debated AgentMatch, it still took longer than it should have.

An article on Realtor Online magazine, stated that NAR admitted that using algorithms to match consumers with agents was a misguided effort at best.  They also admitted that the data used could easily me skewed and misunderstood by consumers and unfairly shed an unfavorable light on productive, as well as less productive agents.

I read a lot of anti-NAR post on ActiveRain and I haven't always agreed with but not once had I ever considered jumping on the anti-NAR bandwagon.  However, with AgentMatch, I must admit that for the first time EVER, I felt that it might have been time for me to withdraw from NAR membership (had NAR moved forward with AgentMatch).  Afterall, NAR is supposed to represent all of it's members, not just a select few.

So for now, I guess I'll hang on in there, but I'll be watching NAR a lot more carefully from now on.

This is good news. I cannot for the life of me undestand how Agent Match would serve the public. I really don't think they have any problem finding the right agent and as stated in the reasons for withdrawing it, numbers don't tell the whole story.

Jane there has never been a truer statement than "numbers don't tell the whole story."  Even as real estate agents privy to the MLS, we regularly have to weed through what we know to be inaccurate information in order to get a clear picture of the real state of affairs.

Charita,  Prior to AgentMatch I never said anything about NAR - period. I have no intentions of paying my dues next year.

For that brain fart to have ever left the building tells me the NAR is NOT serving it's members.

Kathleen I hear you loud and clear and I am feeling those sentiments to the greatest extent.

Barbara this is one instance where I can say that the membership spoke and NAR listened.  I don't ever recall having such a clear example.

I can't NOT pay my dues.  The local MLS is tied to them, and the first "membership" rule of the local MLS is that membership in NAR is required, so there you have it.  I paid my dues this year, because I had to.  I'm glad to read that they came to their senses.  Might have been due to cease and desist they got served as well.

Charita, Not much choice here unless we want to give up MLS access, which is obviously real estate suicide.

BLiz, in Alabama we can have MLS membership without being members of NAR or our local association. There are some conditions that have to be met but there are ways to get around NAR membership. The easiest option is to join a brokerage that is not a member of local, state or national association.

Carla agents can opt out if NAR membership but at price they are usually not willing to pay.

Charita, it sure gets complicated fighting NAR. I say we fight them on a local level and have thm fight NAR for us.

I just stopped by to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!

GREAT, they DO listen It's a shame they didn't in the local Board issue - making small, but good ones, merge or dissolve. I think I understand the GENERAL intent to improve, but in REALITY....
