The FDA has guidelines for the amount of “filth” your food is allowed to contain, including insects, hair and parasites! Some of this is unavoidable – nature just isn’t sterile. How about one more for today? Up until2012 Starbucks used cochineal extract as red food coloring in 6 menu items – it’s an ingredient made from crushed cochineal beetles and boiled in ammonia.
