The Zillow Digs Home Design Trend Report (now that’s a mouthful) is out and has named the 2014 home remodeling/design trends for 2014. Kitchen with black countertops, open shelves, glass-front cabinets, and darker paint tones are all expected to be very popular. The report also said that kitchens are what most homeowners are planning to remodel this coming year.
Black Counters: Black granite and quartz are expected to be the material of choice when homeowners look to add some sophistication and elegance with a black countertop. Most of these counters will be paired with a lighter colored counter thrown in for contrast.
Open Shelves and Glass-front Cabinets: As we mentioned in a previous blog, open shelving and clear-front cabinets are a great way to make your kitchen seem larger. More people are catching on as this trend fits kitchens of all types from modern to traditional kitchens. Just by allowing the eye to slip through and see the back, it helps to make the kitchen seem larger. Just remember that you will need to keep your cabinets and shelves organized otherwise they will make your kitchen look cluttered.
Darker Tones: According to the Zillow Digs report, deep brown, dark red, and copper tones are coming out on top as the most popular paint colors. Just remember that darker colors could make your kitchen feel smaller. This may be one reason the open shelving and glass-front cabinet trend is also popular as it has the opposite effect and makes your kitchen seem bigger.
