Lee County, Florida Homeowners

Are you 'stuck' in your current home? Afraid that if you move to a larger, or even smaller home, that your tax bill will be TOO HIGH? Have you lived in your current house for several + years & have way more than the $25,000 save our homes reduction for assessed value vs market value?

Soon, you may be able to move your homestead exemption with you. Yep, there is a petition you can sign to push for this.

Here's the summary from the form:

Providing for the transfer of a portion of the difference between current market value of a homestead property & its current assessed value to a newly acquired homestead property.

To print & sign the form

& mail it back to "Save our Homes Portability, Inc., P.O. Box 490, Ft. Myers, FL 33902"

This will make an enormous difference in homebuying here. Many sellers I meet with can't afford to stay here. They are only selling to move out of the area or even state. If this portability is passed, we will see many homeowners upgrading or downsizing here into a home that meets their current needs.
