This was a question put to me from my Principal Broker during our yearly session for my business plan.
At first I thought it was a goofy question as It can be embarrassing to talk about the qualities that set you apart. Right?
My answer was passion; two passions.
Passion #1
The passion to help people sell or buy probably the biggest investment they may ever make. I take this responsibility so very much to heart. I truly treat the transaction (whether is be prepping a listing or negotiating a sale for a buyer or evaluating the resale value of a neighborhood for a buyer) with more care than if it were my own. I put the client's needs above my own. My wife would agree with this (much to my chagrin)
Passion #2
Representing a property I have listed with the absolute best photos and ad copy I can. Photography has been a passion of mine decades before real estate so it would not be a stretch to see why I am so fussy. I do not hire a photographer (even though there are a few that are better than me). My tag line (wait while I clip it from my email) ... ...
Opening Doors for Vermonters... with a Personal Touch! ©
It wouldn't be very "personal" if I hired out the photography plus it is my passion so why would I? If my clients call my office they get me, not an assistant or coordinator (not that there is anything wrong with as assistant or coordinator). One reason I operate that way is that it drives me crazy if I cannot contact a service provider directly, or it take 24 hours to hear back.
In this age, an agent would not run a very successful business if people had to wait. The buying and selling public do not want to wait (once they have made a decision) any more than you do.
Oh, about the passion for real estate photography; it has the advantage of justifying camera Canon EOS 70D) and lens upgrades. Just saying we need to buy a few eggs to make an omelet (something like that)
I will also add that the better the equipment the less time you will need to spend in the digital "photo-shop"; the darkroom of this millennium.
Ciao for now. DanaB, your Vermont Agent
