Carlsbad Bids Farewell to Fall and Welcomes Winter

Good by to fall and hello winter in CarlsbadHard to believe the first day of winter is tomorrow.

In some ways we seem to have already been there, with some particularly chilly weather…for SoCal…in the last few weeks.

We can see snow on the distant mountains, and parts of our county experienced snow at the highest elevations, and with near record cold temperatures in some area.

Certainly other parts of the country have experienced significantly cold weather with storms, heavy snow, and everything you would expect at the height of winter. We can't complain.

I often get asked by people from other parts of the country if we have a change of seasons.

leaves on the ground in CarlsbadI can say, without question, that we do. Oh, not the significant changes one finds in so many other areas, but changes nonetheless.

It’s time to say farewell to fall in Carlsbad and welcome the winter.

The holidays are here, and activities are heating up for vacationers enjoying time in our more temperate weather away from the snow and cold.

Surfers are wearing wetsuits, many residents now sport long sleeve shirts and light jackets, and the return of the shorts and Uggs boots has occurred.

We've even turned on the ehat, occasionally, and use our fireplaces.

Happy First Day of Winter tomorrow!

I woke up to snow on the ground. Not much, but it snowed throughout the day, and more is expected over the next two days. That is to be expected in Colorado. I hope you enjoy your winter weather. I do like ours...except when we get those rare times that temps dip down below zero...BURRRRR!!!

I like our winter weather here just fine. After spending 21 years in New England and 2 years in Minnesota it became very clear that I needed to get away from very cold weather and snow. I have NO regrets.

Happy Holidays! May your Christmas be white!

Shucks.  We skipped autumn this year and went straight from supper to winter.

Hate it, hate it, hate it.

You sure did. It seems like half the country missed the fall season. Perhaps the worst is over?

Jeff,  With the record cold temps we have been having it felt like winter weeks ago. We do have seasonal changes ... just not as drastic as back east and other places. It is one reason why so many love living in Southern and Northern CA.  Happy first day of Winter.

Agreed. I don't recall it being this cold typically until January. But we ARE pretty lucky when you consider what others have to deal with. Been there donw that and NOT doing it again.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Jeff - There are so many areas reaching record low temps and we've been experiencing some record high temps. This is the first December in the 12 years that our AC has been on.

SoCal may be warmer than most places but winter still arrives there-it just looks like fall. :-)
