Don't Fear The RE Agent
You want to buy or sell a home and yet you still fear that real estate agent. What is it that you actually fear? Oh yes that's right we are sales people. Those people that won't leave you alone and pressure you until you give in and force you to do something that you really do not want to do. The people that will constantly call you or nag you until you either have to be rude or simply stop answering them. If this is how you have been treated in the past then you were working with the wrong agent.
How Not to Make Money
As a real estate agent, we have many hurdles to overcome before we get paid. One thing to realize is how real
estate agents DON'T make their money. This is important because our goal is not to frighten you away or cause you to mistrust us, quite the opposite.
- We do not make money showing homes - that is right. We do not receive any commissions or payroll to show people homes. In fact, if you are working with another agent and ask us to show you a home (not our listing) we could be accused of interfering in a previously established client agent relationship. This could cause us to lose our license.
- We do not make money writing contracts - that is correct. We might end up writing several contracts on several homes and yet we still do not make a penny.
- We do not make money spending hours scheduling or coordinating - yes another misconception. We may schedule 10 homes for you to see and arrange to be at the home for inspectors, tradesman, appraisers, etc... and yet we receive nothing.
- We do not make money when a buyer or seller changes their mind - of course that never happens. When something happens to cause someone to look for a home or to sell a home there are always things that can happen that will cause them to change their minds. Now all the work and money that has already been spent on trying to sell or finding the right home to buy is gone and yet the RE agent did not make any money they in fact lost money and time.
You see real estate agents only make money once a transaction closes. In fact, once we do get paid we take that earned fee and from that we carve out a little for our broker (unless we are our own broker,) a little or sometimes more than a little for Uncle Sam, more than a little for our expenses including gas, office space, marketing, advertising, etc... and then we get to pay ourselves. Those agents that are so focused on their next pay check often forget that this transaction is not about them but about their clients.
Good Real Estate Agents
Good RE agents who know and understand that our business is not about us but about our clients, work with each one of our clients personally because we realize that you are their most important client. For us to do our best work, it is important to work side by side with our clients. Sometimes even good RE agents forget that how we
want to communicate may not be the way our client does. Don't be afraid to tell your RE agent exactly how you want to be contacted and how often.
We are not guaranteed any income at all when we work with you. When we are working with you, we are provided the opportunity to prove to you that we are the right person to help you and everyone you know with their next real estate transaction. The best way for us, as good RE agents, to prove this to you is to understand what you want to achieve and how you want to move forward. Whatever the situation, you owe it to yourself to engage the help of someone who does this full time and can guide you the way you want to move forward.
