Holiday Advice from the Gaithersburg Police Department
Dolores and I plan to have a quiet New Year’s Eve at home. If you are going to be out and about, please consider the following advice from the Gaithersburg Police Department. Be careful out there. The life you save may be your own or that of a family member.
Happy New Year!
This holiday season, we would like to remind motorists to be careful during this time and should you wish to drink, not to drive.
The Gaithersburg Police Department would like to urge motorists to make alternate plans before driving under the influence. Law enforcement officers will be out in force, conducting various enforcement initiatives with a focus on impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers.
Please follow these tips to keep the holidays safe and happy:
• Even one drink can impair your judgment and increase the risk of getting arrested for driving drunk—or worse, the risk of having a crash while driving.
• If you will be drinking, do not plan on driving. Plan ahead; designate a sober driver before the party begins.
• If you have been drinking, do not drive. Call a taxi, phone a sober friend or family member, use public transportation.
• Be responsible. If someone you know is drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel.
• If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact your local law enforcement agency. In Montgomery County, call 301-279-8000. In Prince Georges, call 301-352-1200.
Remember you can also call SoberRide at 1-800-200-TAXI for a FREE ride HOME (up to $30 fare)10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (SoberRIDE is offered in the District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince Georges County in Maryland and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties in Northern and Eastern Virginia.)
