Free Stuff You Can Get With a Santa Clara County Library Card

by REALTOR® Michelle Carr-Crowe

Residents from Morgan Hill to Los Altos Hills, Cupertino to Campbell know their award-winning Santa Clara County Library provides access to movies, books, video games and more. Each cardholder can reserve up to 12 items, including not-yet-released DVD’s, as well as recommend suggestions for purchase.

But there’s an additional category of fun free stuff included with a Santa Clara County Library card! That benefit includes free and reduced pricing from The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose to The Presidential Yacht in Oakland to the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco.

Aquarium of the Bay free admission Santa Clara County Library Michelle Carr Crowe blog imageFor example, a special pass printed from a Santa Clara County Library cardholder’s account gives $3 off per person at The Tech Museum of Innovation. General adult museum admission is $15, with combo tickets and special exhibits at additional prices, such as Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination. (FYI, this same discount is available with an AAA California State Automobile Association card.)

The Santa Clara County Library card gives each cardholder half-off of a docent-led tour for up to two people of The Presidential Yacht-U.S.S. Potomac. So a tour would cost two people only $10 total instead of the usual $10 per person.

One of the biggest discounts and benefits from that same Santa Clara County Library card is free family admission for up to two adults and two children at the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco. (The usual admission is $21.95 per adult and $12.95 per child, making this a savings of nearly $70!) Separately there is a locals discount of $18 per adult and $10 per child (4-12) and senior (65 and up) for residents of the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties.

These benefits can be used once per year, and some restrictions apply. See the Santa Clara County Library website for details. Below is an example of what’s available.

Nice! I used to go a lot to local library when my kids were little, and museums too. So, it is a win win for any parent to get a library membership.
