Mommy, what's a New Year's Resolution? my 4-year old asked this morning. Well, pumpkin, it's a promise we make to ourselves to improve on something in our life. Some people want to lose weight or eat healthier for example. Do you have a New Year's resolution?" *thinks hard* "I want to clean up my room more! *pauses* But how can I make sure I won't forget?
That's a great question! I, of course, will remind you! (I'm seeing some eye-roll-moments in my future)
And since cleaned up rooms put a huge smile on my face, it won't take much effort to hold my daughter accountable throughout the year.
Having an accountability partner works wonders in following through on (New Year's) resolutions, a work-out buddy, a business partner, a coach etc. can truly increase once success rate. I'm also a list maker - writing out my goals, big and small, is helpful but I also like the sense of accomplishment I feel when I get to check them off.
But, as we all know, we don't always have an accountability partner willing or able to commit to our resolutions and lists don't work well for all goals we set ourselves.
Somehow I don't think my daughters will be as helpful in holding me to my New Year's resolution!
So, what else can we do to make sure our New Year's resolutions are not forgotten in a few days? How do you hold yourself accountable?
May the new year be a happy, healthy and prosperous one for you
and the best one yet!
