How do you hold yourself accountable?

Real Estate Agent with Thompson Company, REALTORS® MD594797

Mommy, what's a New Year's Resolution? my 4-year old asked this morning. Well, pumpkin, it's a promise we make to ourselves to improve on something in our life. Some people want to lose weight or eat healthier for example. Do you have a New Year's resolution?" *thinks hard* "I want to clean up my room more! *pauses* But how can I make sure I won't forget?

That's a great question! I, of course, will remind you! (I'm seeing some eye-roll-moments in my future)

And since cleaned up rooms put a huge smile on my face, it won't take much effort to hold my daughter accountable throughout the year.

New year's resolution

Having an accountability partner works wonders in following through on (New Year's) resolutions, a work-out buddy, a business partner, a coach etc. can truly increase once success rate. I'm also a list maker - writing out my goals, big and small, is helpful but I also like the sense of accomplishment I feel when I get to check them off.

But, as we all know, we don't always have an accountability partner willing or able to commit to our resolutions and lists don't work well for all goals we set ourselves.

Somehow I don't think my daughters will be as helpful in holding me to my New Year's resolution!

So, what else can we do to make sure our New Year's resolutions are not forgotten in a few days? How do you hold yourself accountable?

Happy New Year

May the new year be a happy, healthy and prosperous one for you
and the best one yet!

Caring expertise...knowledge for you!

That is the question...we do seem to be better at fulfiling those promises to ourselves if we involve others in our program.   Nice post!

I have, too, Grant, especially when it comes to my business. Happy New Year!

Thank you Dan. That's true. We went for a nice walk today, starting the year off right.

Happy New Year Bill. I sure hope so. Day 1 went well, we had roasted asparagus, quinoa and grilled salmon for dinner.

It's a challenge sometimes Li, my kids are not too excited about my resolution It's safe to assume that they won't remind me to make salad and veggies for dinner.

I am sure there is an app for that! If she is a fan of stickers, give her a calendar and a sticker for each time she straightens her room!  Hope she and your other beautiful daughther put lots of smiles on your face in 2014, clean room or not!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Looking forward to all the wonderful things it brings!

Mario, an assistant is a great idea and a sure way to stay on track.

It's hard to believe Lisa but, as you can probably imagine, I was so ready to close the door on 2013. I'm looking forward to filling the pages of the book 2014 with lots of happy stuff.

Thank you Eric! Glad you liked it.

Bridget, a sticker chart is great, of course, and works well for little ones. I am my biggest challenge however, how to keep myself accountable and on track to eat healthier is the question! Want to join me in my quest?

Hi Andrea, I mark my calender when I accomplish my goal for the day. Seeing it in view helps me be accountable since I don't have an accountability partner. Happy New Year!

Andrea, you are so right. The best times I've worked out were with a partner who held me accountable while I did the same for him. The same would be true in business. Have a marvelous New Year!

Andrea, that first image could apply to me as well!  I usually write down what I want to accomplish and then put it away.  Funny how things once they are written down are so much more powerful.  Happy 2014 to you!

I integrated my to-do list with my calendar, Pamela, it feels great to check items off one by one!

I used to go running with my dad, Mike, he made sure I didn't skip one! I wish he was here because I'm def. slacking now!

That's very true Silvia. Visualization is powerful, writing it down is more of a commitment. I just wish I could get my girls more excited about my resolution! I started a Pinterest board to collect some recipes.. Just got to find a few more that will make my girls happy, too.

Andrea, my running parter has turned into a flake the past few weeks so I don't know if I can trust her to be my accountability partner. Need a new friend quick! LOL

I can help with the food, just let me know how!
