Thankful Thursday-Christmas for the birdies in January

Good evening everyone-I had lunch with a friend that I hadn't seen for Christmas so today was our belated Christmas lunch.  She knows I am a avid bird lover and I even turned her on to feeding the birds in her new home.  She is enjoying it maybe as much as I am. The main staple of the diet I feed the birds is sunflower seeds, I do feed them other food but the main staple is sunflower seeds as it is a birdseed that is widely enjoyed by many species.

We normally exchange our gifts in the restaurant but neither of us did that today. Well after I got the one gift I can see why we didn't. It was a 40# bag of sunflower seeds. Needless to say I will be scooping the food out of the bag from the car until it gets down enough that I can handle it. I generally pick up 20# of sunflower seeds from Walmart and that is just about right to handle.  While I can probably pick it up I would have to carry it aways and then lift it into the trashcan I have it stored in so it will stay in the back seat of the car for the time being.

Now I also had an odd shaped pkg which she told me I would have fun with. Well when I got home I opened it and I don't know if I will have fun with it or if the birds will but it is a perfect gift for a bird lover and even though I have several feeders I don't have one like this. I am most happy with my two Christmas gifts and the birds will love it too.

I always thought it would be nice to live in a log cabin so for now this is the closest I will get.  So on this Thursday and all year long I will be thankful for this wonderful Christmas gift that will get much use from my many featured friends

Hi Sharon the birds will trul be thankful for the food you provide them. My parents also do this and have seen a few Hummingbirds by their feeder in the summer. I think that is fairly unusual in Chicago area.

Happy New Year Sharon!

I'm sure the birds are going to love all of that seed.  Your friend was very thoughtful.

That is a cute log cabin feeder.  I predict you are going to find a wonderful spot for it in your garden.

How sweet and appropriate gifts Sharon for your hobby. You will build muscles with that much feed.

Sondra-Thank you and it will be right outside my window so I can see it clearly and watch them.  I thought it was cute as well.

Alexandra-I truly do enjoy it immensely

Lou-That they do

Beth-I will indeed and I loved the gift.

Gary-It was and it won't build muscles unless I lift it and so I think it will be much wiser to leave it in the back seat of the car for now

There are a couple shops in the Sacramento area, which cater to those, who pamper their feathered bird friends.  I'm always fascinated with what is available there.

Hi Sharon,

What a great Christmas present but the way those birds eat, 40 lbs will not last long with all those hungry birdies. The new bird house is so cute and will protect them from the cold.

Hi Sharon Lee, Happy New Year. I was laughing a bit as the description of the 40# bag of seed and how the seed will be dispensed. BTW, I think it is very cool gift.

Kristin-I know it won'i because there are a lot more birdies with this cold weather, It is actually a feeder and not a house but I have a evergreen tree right next to the feeders so a lot of birds use that

William=Happy New Year to you, Yes I can see wht that would make you laugh and it is a cool gift

Hi Sharon,

Have you put it out yet?  Did it take long for the birds to find it?
