And the Snow Globe Goes to Erie, PA  with 70+ inches SNOW

Snow Globe

SnowGlobe.com stats for cities of 100,000+ population has awarded Erie, PA the title of Snowiest City for 2013-2014 season.

  1. Erie, PA 70+
  2. Syracuse, NY 43.6

Even though SnowGlobe has issued a challenge to other cities to overtake Erie, PA we just keep piling up the snow totals.  All cities with population of 100,000+ are eligible to participate in the annual Snow Contest which orginated in Rochester, NY.  Now I am sure the southern states could care less about this contest unless you used to lived here or still have relatives that live.

Snow

How is your city faring in this latest winter storm?  Will your city claim the Snow Globe?

Mary, that is indeed a lot of snow.  We had some flurries yesterday, but today the sun is out and temps should go from 8 to 40 degrees today.  Keep warm!

I don't think I ever have to worry about being in an area that wins that award.  Northern VA gets 30 inches in a really snowy winter....maybe.

Hello, Kristin, I am sure that Wisconsin is colder than Erie.  Be warm!

Rebecca, most of Erie's snow comes from the lake.  The cold weather should freeze the lake which will turn off the snow machine.  We hope, however, the skiers are loving it.

Beth, ooh, temps in the 40's is low for Florida.  Stay warm!

John,  the ski resorts, like Wolf Creek and Peek 'n Peak, love all the snow that Mother Nature sends their way.

Shanna, enjoy the sledding in St. Louis.  As kids we used to love snow storms for sledding and building snow forts.

Suzanne, come on up to Erie for snowy visit.  We have lots and are willing to share.  The weather forecast is calling for another storm next week.

Chris Ann, I bet you are right.  Northern Virginia will not bump Erie or upstate New York off the snow pedestal.

A few inches of snow is about all I can handle. It appears that Erie is far ahead of the competition.

Roy, I am okay with snow as long it doesn't come in feet or sleet/ice.

Mary, It is hard to grasp 70 inches of snow. We had a dusting and it didn't even cover the grass.

Rob, it is hard to imagine not having much snow.  The least we have had is approx. 45 inches and our average is close to 100 inches.  We are almost there.

Debbie, just look at my pictures. It is real and it's cold, too.  We had plans to go to hockey game but decided to go another night.  It's sunny now so the temperature will close to zero or below after dark.  Brr!!!

Mary, as silly as this sounds - snow photos are just beautiful!   BUT, think you can keep those 70" of snow.   We MAY have had a foot so far!

Thanks, Joan, with the frigid temperatures I don't think our snow is going anywhere too soon.  Thanks for stopping by.

Even I, the wandering South Florida tourist, would have gladly traded jumping into a snowbank of 70 inches than having to deal with what happened to me on the trip to Dry Tortugas.

Improving the Quality of Your Life

Hi Mary,

This brings back memories in that I moved to St. Thomas from Chicago, which although cold doesn't really get that much snow. I did spend a lot of time in the Rochester, NY area early in life and upstate NY gets a lot of snow. I don't miss it.

Stay warm and dry!

Tanya, and St. Thomas is so much warmer and no snow unless you come back for winter visit.  My husband grew up near Rochester in Fairport, NY so we are both familiar with cold & snow.  Fortunately we are able to escape for a few weeks each winter to a warmer climate, like the islands.  Enjoy the sun & warmth.
