Preparing Home For Buyers

If you are planning to sell your home, some minor cosmetic changes can make your home more appealing to potential buyers.  The relatively small expense involved may be well worth your investment since your home could sell faster and for a better price.

Consider the following suggestions from professional Realtors:

  • Paint the interior walls a bright neutral color such as white or ivory.
  • Paint the front door and put down a new welcome mat.
  • Plant flowers everywhere and keep the lawn and shrubs neatly trimmed.
  • Clean the carpets and polish hardwood floors.
  • Replace all light bulbs and open drapes and window coverings. Keep lights on even during the day so the house is as bright and cheerful as possible.
  • Put excess furniture in storage to make the house look more spacious.

Great suggestions Regina! This is a very "ugly" time of year for listings in our region.  All the more reason to be sure the interior is EXTRA clean and inviting.

Regina, good post on selling tips to seller's. The front door is my favorite portion of the exterior to prepare for sale.

Brenda, that is so true.  It's really important that the interior of the house is sparkling clean.

Winston, thanks for reading and posting a comment.

Frank, you're right!  It gives a good impression to the buyers if the front door is in good shape.

I am using all of these things right now for a client who had a rental, and is now prepping it for sale. We are almost through the entire process, and wow, what a difference a little paint, lighting, carpet cleaning, and lawn maintenance can make.
