Success in Business Is about Relationships
Real Estate, like all sales, is a people business. It's not who we know, but who knows us and the service we can provide. Face to face networking has been the paradigm for building business relationships for more than a century, but the internet is reinventing how business is done today.
Buyers and would-be clients are turning to the internet as the business encyclopedia of who's who and who offers what service. The internet has become the new want ads and yellow pages.
Are you there? What is your presence on the web?
Have you adapted your business plan to meet the needs of today's client? Are you still using the brick & mortar model to generate leads? Are you spending money on print ads and mailings? Are you waiting for the phone to ring or future business to walk into your next open house?
Ask yourself: Am I getting the results I want from what I am doing now? Am I generating leads?
Bottom line: Am I making more money? What do I need to change?
Are you there? What is your presence on the web?
Can potential buyers & sellers find you on the web?
Does your web presence 'stand out' from the competition? Why would the consumer choose to work with you rather than your competition?
Let's take a lesson from the old days of 'face to face' networking and think of how to build a relationship with the online consumer.
First, most people want to know what you can do for them. Don't just tell them what you can do for them, give them examples of how you can help them.
Second, they want to work with friendly salesperson who is interested in helping them realize their goals. Does your photo look friendly? And no, they don't really care that you have been in business for 11+ years and you are a 'multi-'dollar producer.
Third, familiarity a.k.a Branding. People want to do business with people they know. Build your internet presence on several sites: Company website, Realtor.com, Zilliow, Trulia, LinkedIn, Facebook business pages and blogging sites i.e. ActiveRain. Be consistent with your profile on the various platforms as it creates the feeling, 'I know that person. She's everywhere. I feel like I know her.'
In other words even though the internet has reinvented how consumers find their real estate agent 'success in business' is still about building relationships.
