Specializing in Cajun Food and Pizza in Lauraville, Baltimore
Tooloulou is a little bit bigger than a hole in the wall. It has 3 small round tables and a couple of counters. Communal dining is encouraged. It's easy because the clientele is very downhome, mostly from the neighborhood of Lauraville. I go there whenever I have a craving for an Oyster Po Boy. The blackboard describes a Po Boy as a "Louisiana style sub served on French bread. All are "dressed proper" with lettuce, tomato, spicy Cajun pickles and Tabasco remoulade. Be prepared for a messy sandwich, but it sure is yummy. I've also really enjoyed their pizza. One of my favorites is the one with house smoked duck, caramalized onion, sweet peppers and hot cheese, drizzled with balsamic reduction. And try to save room for dessert! Today's was Banana Fosters Cream Pie, that Shawn created.
Shawn Lagergren is the owner. He hails from the town of Houma in South Louisiana, but he's been here for 23 years. He learned how to cook from his grandmother (Maw Maw) who specialized in Cajun style (low country) French food. When I asked Shawn what really makes the restaurant stand out, what he is most proud of, he answered that everything is fresh. In season, literally everything comes "from the dirt". Shawn has a passion for food and is very excited to show it!
You can also follow Tooloulou on Facebook where they will occassionally share some special discounts.
