Want To Enjoy Tropical Warmth On A Cold Winter Day?

National Zoo Butterfly Exhibit

Though it's below freezing in DC you can still enjoy a bit of summer.  The National Zoo offers a free butterfly exhibit that is a delight.  Leaving the cold outside you walk through a double set of doors into a wonderland of butterflies flying around and blooming flowers.

If you stand still you might even get a few of the butterflies to land on you.  It's a nice way to warm up after wandering through the zoo and of course a place to take a few photos too.

Cindy--In Minnesota when it is subzero like today...or below freezing like a normal winter day, we can visit the tropics at the Minnesota Zoo or Como Park's Conservatory. Those places are very popular with tropical, warm temperatures all winter long! :)

Cindy~ Great way to warm up on a very cold day. We're in the teens in Metro Denver. We even had a bit of a dusting this morning. My husband is outside snow blowing the driveway and sidewalks.

It is wonderful that you have this area of the zoo, which provides escape from your current storms. . .What a delightful alternative reality!

Yeah, but you'd have to hire a snow plow to get you there, no??  What a good idea though.  I bet the polar bears at the zoo are happy right about now!

Cindy, the zoo is one of my favorite sites to see in DC. Love the butterfly exhibit, but never thought about visiting during the winter.

There is nothing more awesome than walking through a butterfly exhibit on a cold winter day.  They keep the temps at tropical levels.  We have an exhibit in Grand Rapids that my wife and I go to at times.  So incredible.  A photographers delight.
