Xanax, please!

By

SO, I'm buying a house.  I know what you're thinking, "Darrin, you a broker.  You manage 67 agents and oversee a gazillion deals a month.  What oh what are you worried about?"

Well, I'll tell you.

Everything!

Now, listen, before you think I'm mad, I have great people working on this deal with.  A great lender, a great title company, terrific sellers...their is absolutely nothing for me to be freaking out about.  After all, you would think I know what I'm doing - and I do - but  that's not the point.

Buying a house is WAY stressful.

Then it occurred to me. We, as the, magnificent agents we are, tell people all the time to trust us.  We tell them that buying a home is an ordeal and that after it settles you will laugh about all the things you worried about.

Now I know this, but I seriously still need Xanax.

But then something else occurred to me...that as a leader of an office being reminded of what this feels like right now will help me help them, better.

And what it all comes down to is that I'm here, in my job, to do just that - HELP!  Remebering how all this feels from their perspective is just a value add.

Xanax, please!

Xanax heck give me something stronger than that.  Seems every buyer wants to see thirty houses before they are ready to make an offer.

We've joked in our office that sometimes when selling a house, if all the parties could just go on Prozac during the entire escrow process, we'd all be happier.

Hey Darrin,

Pop a couple Zanax, smoke some weed, or better yet take a day off and relax and not do one bit of "work" and just relax. It is always good to take some time for yourself to rewind. OH .... and don't go by the weed....I don't want to read a future blog about you being arrested for drugs.

I would suggest 30 days in Cryogenics and a Power of Attorney.  We'll thaw you out and wake you when the keys are ready.

Turn off the cell phone, sign the power of attorney, hop a plane and hang out here in Hawaii.  Dance naked at Kalani or at the beach at Kehena, watch the dolphins and whales and just forget about it.  Arrange for movers to have everything in the house when you get home.

Try as I may, I have yet to find a doctor that will prescribe intravenous slow-drip Xanax to people in escrow -- God knows I've tried.

Darrin...Congratulations on finding a home that you wanted.  That's sometimes the big hurdle.

A few years ago we bought a second home, a FSBO.  My apologies to all fellow REALTORS but it was absolutely the best place.  I was the worlds worst negotiator when it came to buying for myself.  But, am I happy?  Oh, you bet I am.  I would even have paid full price and been happy.

Share some photos with us.  I would love to see what is making you happy and anxious at the same time.

Again, congratulations.

I had my home on the market last year.  After 2 months of living without a dog hair on the floor or a dirty dish on the floor - I couln't stand it!

... or a Lemon Drop Martini at McCormick & Schmicks and 2 or 3 dozen really cold and fresh oysters on the half shell. That seems to also do the trick. I highly recommend doing this ritual at a big table filled with family and friends.

Congrats on the house adventure! May all your real extate ventures produce gold and never feel like that famed house in "The Money Pit".

Cheers! [We're on the move this next few weeks, too.]
