December's Cloudburst Results, WOW!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with ActiveRain, Community Manager

The December’s Cloudburst challenged you to give back and/or pay it forward.  All you had to do was brighten someone’s day and boy did you ever!  Our biggest participation for a Cloudburst yet with almost 300 members participating.

Going through the entries was a gift in itself.  The ActiveRain community always goes above and beyond and December was no different.  I would like to share a few stories and acts of kindness shared by our community.  I have decided to leave everything anonymous as to not over-share anyone’s business.

You should all feel very proud for the things you did.  And if you weren't able to participate, no worries.  Feel proud to be amongst some shining stars in the world.

Enjoy reading a few highlighted stories.  And if I know anything about our community it’s that these acts don’t just stop because it’s no longer the holiday season.

My Son’s Coat
“I no longer ride around with my son's coat he left in my car 2 months ago.  Obviously, he's not cold, but the old man standing at the freeway off ramp as me and my husband stopped at the light last night had to have been freezing.  We called him over and gave it to him.  He had tears in his eyes.  As I got off the freeway this afternoon heading in from work, there he stood looking snug as a bug.”

The Next Beethoven?
"Donated 4 pianos to families who can’t afford them so their kids can study music."

Locked into Kindness
“A good friend as me to do some locksmith work on his home. He insisted that he pay me and that I not do the job for free. I did the work for him and never planned to charge him, instead I asked him to do me a favor.  I asked him to go to the local Walmart and go to the service counter and use the money that he was going to give me to pay off or pay down someone’s lay-away and then leave a note that if and when they can, do something good for someone else and pay it forward.”

Christmas Tree and Rent Free
“I bought a beautiful Martha Stewart 9ft pre-lit Christmas tree and left it for a family that I heard did not have a tree - along with a box, two gifts each, for their 7 kids.  I didn't leave my name - only let them know this was just a surprise. Yesterday I called two of my long term tenants - they have been with me for over 7-8 years each, and I let them know that I would not be cashing their December rent checks - this month was a freebie - so that they could use the money instead for something they wanted to do. “

Stockings for the Troops
"I helped with Stockings for Soldiers that will provide Christmas stockings to over 10,000 soldiers stationed overseas this year."

DJ Thankful
“While on vacation in Jamaica, we came across a young man selling items on the beach - the interesting thing about him was his voice.  He had a voice made for radio.  We asked him if anyone ever told him he should be in radio he said yes but he didn't have a computer to work with. We just so happened to bring along an extra travel laptop we had, and we gave it to him to start his career - needless to say he was very appreciative.”

Blanket of Love
"I made an afghan to take to the Nursing Center at our Dosher Hospital.  I will take it and give it to someone who is alone and does not have one on their bed."

Homerun Hero
“There was a girl who was really sad, I asked her mom why and she said she was not able to pay to register her daughter for sports, so she could not play. I paid for her registration and told them it was a scholarship for her good sportsmanship last year. I purchased 9 other registrations and had them give them out to families who needed assistance to keep their girls active.”

Hearts in the Sand
“I was able to get the city of Newport Beach to supply me with grabbers, & bags so that I can do a beach clean up a couple times/week.”

Ho-Ho-Ho
“Sent an 11-y-o autistic boy money to go see Santa at the mall and have his picture taken.”

Home for the Holidays
“We have a local gentleman that made national news after being found alive in a wrecked pickup...after 6 days.  He lost both feet, some fingers and has a feeding tube for the rest of his life. I found him a place to live while he recovers.”

Littered with Goodness
“We had our trash collected on Christmas Day!  How awful to take these men away from their families on Christmas Day!!!  So we waited until the truck pulled up to pick up our trash and surprised the two guys with $20 each, and told them "Merry Christmas!" and how much we appreciated all their hard work all year in the heat and cold.”

Mug o’ Love
“A collaboration between myself and a supplier. There was a "misunderstanding" on the design of some Personalized Coffee Mugs that I had ordered. They were ok, but not what I ordered. Rather than messing with the shipping charges to return them and then having to get rid of them themselves, we worked out for me to donate them. So far, my Church's Food Depot, the local Christian Mission (along with several other items), and in a few days, the few left will go to a local struggling restaurant that said they could sure use some and my auto-mechanic's shop (replace the dirty ones there).  Although they were to be Christmas Presents to my Clients, I gave them other presents, and spread a little good will to people who needed some help.”

Rainers Making a Difference
Served hot chocolate to homeless, cleaned out closets and donated clothes, adopted families, started food drives, brought homemade soup to sick neighbors, volunteered at hospitals, shoveled elderly neighbor’s snow, made packages for homeless,  baked cookies for nursing home, cut neighbors lawn, made Christmas dinner for homeless, sponsored children through World Vision,  put up Christmas lights on a house who ‘s residents were unable to do so, wrote positive Yelp reviews for business, made food for family whose loved one was going through surgery,  took neighbor’s garbage cans up to their house, donated to Toys for Tots, animals rescued, bought groceries for the needy at supermarket, donated money, paid utility bills for those in danger of getting shut off, sent care packages to soldiers, delivered lattes to the fire department, cleaned up litter, passed out secret Santa envelopes to random people, cooked warm home cooked meals for people in need, bought $100 worth McDonalds gift cards and handed them out to those in need,  left big tips to unsuspecting wait staff, paid layaway bills at Walmart, left random Merry Christmas notes on car windshields, donated books to library, donated blood, and paid for  tolls and Starbucks to those next in line.

And that’s not even ½ of what was accomplished.  Look at what happens when we just give a little, we change the world just a tiny bit. Thank you to all who participated and continue to keep this behavior throughout the year!
