The Annual Ice Tee Golf Tournament on Lake Wallenpaupack is set for Sunday, January 26, 2014. This is one of the best winter events on Lake Wallenpaupack. Participants are in great spirits, enjoying the cold while playing a sport that typically takes a hiatus in our winter climate. The tournament is presented by the Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Ehrhardt's Waterfront Restaurant & Resort and Crystal Cabin Fever (very appropriate since it is owned by a full service ice event company) .
The golf tournament is held on frozen Lake Wallenpaupack and is quite a site to see. Two 9-hold courses are created just like a "green" course - the organizers take the time to create lined fairways, greens, water traps, obstacles and roughs. Even though they may not have "golfed this course" in the past, golfers receive a map with the course layout. To make it even more fun (and challenging), each participant is restricted to play with two clubs and one putter.
Tee Times begin at 9am. "Green Fees" - or should we call them "White Fees" are a $20 (in-advance at the Chamber office) non-refundable donation per person. $25 on the day of the event.
The Chamber also creates a "Closest to Wally" driving contest to award the golfer who lands the closest drive to "Wally," aptly named the snowman-mascot of the Lake Region of the Pocono Mountains.
The event would not be complete without an awards ceremony celebrating the day. It starts at 3pm and participants can win prizes and giveaways.
Since we've had some pretty cold temperatures, I am hoping they can pull it off this year. The lake is frozen right now.
