We Have Heat Again
Mid-day on Saturday our downstairs furnace decided to stop working. As temperatures fell outside they also fell inside. I kept pushing buttons on the thermostat to no avail. I tried the air conditioner and it worked fine, so I knew the problem was with the furnace and not the air handler. When it appeared that I could not solve the problem I called our HVAC guy, Jamie Hyden. Since the upstairs furnace was still working I told him there was no hurry but please come in the next couple of days when he was going to be on this side of town. He told me he would be by the next morning.
We placed a few space heaters in the living room and closed off all rooms that had doors. We turned on the gas fireplace. Despite our efforts the temperature downstairs kept falling. We spent most of our time upstairs in our warm bedrooms.
Early Sunday morning Jamie came by and checked out both of our units. The motor plus a few other parts needed to be replaced on the downstairs unit. I was not surprised as they are both original and 17+ years old. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the Carrier parts until the next day.
Monday morning Jamie called to say he was gathering the parts he needed and would be working a few jobs as he made his way to my house. I knew some people had no heat at all and certainly wanted him to help them first.
I snapped a few pictures of our predicament. The temperature outside was 10 degrees and I noticed the inside temperature was 56 degrees.
Jamie texted me that he was 20 minutes away. He arrived and quickly replaced the parts. My downstairs heat was up to 71 before I knew it. We Have Heat Again. By the way, what temperature is your thermostat set on?
I was glad to have a trustworthy professional that I could call. If you find yourself in this situation you should give Jamie a call, too. He serves the surrounding Nashville area.
