Chilly Delivery Day
Today was my first rotation for Alexandria Meals on Wheels this year... and I picked a heck of a day for it. With the arctic blast coming in over night it was 8 degrees when I woke up this morning (Northern VA just across the Potomac from Washington, DC isn't used to single digits) but it inched up a few degrees by the time I arrived for my meals. The cold did however give me a reason to finally wear a Christmas gift from 2012... a Carhartt pullover from my mother-in-law.
(Not bad for my first selfie!)
Everyone on my route today was home today and in great spirits, despite the weather. They all had working heat and very kind souls, as they were so thankful for me coming out in the weather to bring them the food. Which warms me up in a different way than just heat... there is true gratitude and concern for others out there. I get my regular dose several times a month.
Meals on Wheels in Alexandria City is coordinated by Senior Services of Alexandria and provides meals free of charge to qualifying residents or they can be purchased. If you know of someone in Alexandria that may benefit from the program, they can go to http://www.seniorservicesalex.org/meals.html or call 703-836-4414, ext 12.
One downside of delivering the meals is that the inside of my SUV smells soooo good by the end of run that I am starving! Today's hot meal was beef with gravy, so you know what I wanted by the time I got home... Good thing I didn't join Alan's weight competition.
