I have been roaming the county roads of Nebraska for over 40 years. Last year I drove over 30,000 miles on the gravel roads. I believe I have well over 500,000 miles on the roads. I thought I had seen it all.
Beautiful lands, incredible sunsets and sunrises, mother nature's bounty...and fury, man's monuments and debacles, fantastic farm steads and true hillbilly dumps, clean countryside and dirty, animals dumped by the road, thousands of wild animals, beautiful rivers, wild rivers, flooding rivers, dry rivers, wild fires, hail, tornadoes, lightening strikes, gully washers, wild buffalo, Bald eagles, and on and on.
But rounding the corner yesterday I saw something I had never seen before and it made me sad...
Someone had thrown out their microwave into the road ditch...why is beyond me. It would have fit in almost any trash can.
Those of you who are old enough will remember the Keep America Beautiful campaign from the 1970's. Here is the commercial...please take time to watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7OHG7tHrNM And then click back to this blog and leave your thoughts.
Perhaps it is time that we took a long hard look at littering laws and actually enforce them!!
None of us should have to drive down a road or a street or highway and see trash and discarded furniture...not in your state, province, or mine!
Until Next Time...
