Penn State University’s Dance Marathon, commonly known as THON is the world's largest student run philanthropy. The 48 hour long event is held annually to raise funds for the Four Diamonds Fund, which benefits children with cancer under treatment at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
High School and Middle School students in the Solanco School District at Quarryville Pennsylvania will be hosting a 12 hour MiniTHON and have been challenged to stay on their feet for 12 hours from 7 PM on Friday February 7th until 7 AM on Saturday February 8th in recognition of the struggles facing children with pediatric cancer.
Kick off assemblies have been held and recruitment has begun to register students for a small registration fee and to encourage them to get sponsors to raise addition funds. Several school teachers and staffers have agreed to have their heads shaved if students reach previously set bench marks. The students who raise the most money will have the priviledge of giving the haircuts during the MiniTHON.
