Home Building & Remodeling Show in Colorado Springs (January 10-13, 2014 at the Norris-Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.
National Western Stock Show in Denver (Parade: January 9; National Western Stock Show: January 11-26, 2014) Horse shows are part of the National Western Stock Show line up. Sunday will be the freestyle reining event.
My poor horses are going to feel neglected this weekend. There are too many fun things going on this weekend to stay at home…. Of course, I can go shopping for them at the National Western Stock Show and I can find ideas to make the barn nicer at the Home Building and Remodeling Show.
Tonight I’m pouting because it looks like I am going to miss the National Western Stock Show’s Kick Off Parade tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. The parade starts at Union Station at 12 noon and runs down 17th street. Parades are always fun but I would love to get a photograph of a herd of Texas Longhorns being driven down the street in Denver.
The National Western Stock Show runs from Saturday January 11 – 26, 2014 in Denver. If you’ve never been to the National Western Stock Show, I recommend going on Sunday, January 12. In addition to the rodeo, Coors Western Art Exhibit, horse shows and other special events; the National Reining Horse Freestyle reining competition will be held on Sunday also.
Even if someone isn’t a horse lover, most people find freestyle reining to be entertaining. Sunday’s event is invitation only. The riders will be competing for $15,000 in prizes. The riders and horses will be in costumes and they perform to music. Some performances will be funny. Others will be touching.
For those of you who have never seen a freestyle reining performance, here a youtube video of one of the best. It is a touching ride by Stacy Westfall to the song "Live Like You Are Dying." She rides without a saddle or a bridle.

The Home Building and Remodeling Show will be held this weekend (January 10-12, 2014) also. This is going to be the 18th year that it will it be held at the Norris-Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. (That the place where the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo is held. The show is held in the indoor arena.) Tickets are $4.00 for adults. Children under 18 get in free.

Saturday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
