Lots of changes are made in a growing city, which is what our Searcy AR is.
It is a pleasure to drive by a house that is largely unchanged and in apparent great condition. That is the situation if you drive by 410 E Park. Roger Dobbins sent me a photograph of this house and says his grandparents, Elbert and Annie Melton built it. The courthouse records say it was built in 1935.
He doesn't say what year this picture was made. Look at the size of the tree that was cut down on the right and look at those chairs on the front porch. Folks are now considering those chairs antiques and using them again. Here's the way it looks today. Is still has a sidewalk in front, something that I wish we had in all the subdivisions in this city.
It seems to be unchanged except for some added siding. It was always a chore to paint those exposed eaves so someone enclosed them. But the house is still lovely, isn't it?
If you like rock houses and want to research them google Silas Owens. He is becoming famous for his delightful and complicated combination of rock and brick. He has been written about and some of his houses are going onto the historic register. Wonder if this could be one of them?
