"Be better than I was one minute ago," is a statement from a brand new friend. I planned on a post about referrals but you will have to wait until tomorrow for that one. One of the things that I love about travel is the opportunity to meet new people and be exposed to their ideas and philosophies.
Tonight I went to a simple gathering here in Tijuana. Of the 10 people there were four of us who were new to the group. The United States, China, Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico were represented so it was a fairly diverse set of individuals. It was fascinating to listen to the discussions. The group was formed around the concept of travel so naturally there were some great travel stories.
But what I enjoyed most was listening to my new friend Margarita telling her philosophy of life. She is one of the most positive and motivating people that I have met and that includes many of the top motivational speakers in the United States. In her online bio, she describes her mission as "Be better than I was one minute ago."
I felt it was important for me to try and share a couple of her ideas. She is the type of person who does not believe anything is impossible. If you desire something, then you can do it!! And you know when you listen to someone like her who explains this idea with such passion, it seems impossible not to become fired up yourself.
She laughed and stated that money becomes way too important to most of us. And as she said, "Money is just pieces of paper and we can just crumple them up and throw them away". Our lives, feelings and actions have much more value.
And finally she emphasized how important it is to have positive support -- to have someone who believes in us. We have to remember the positive people in our lives and thank them for being there for us.
So tonight I went for a quick beer and some company and came away full of excitement about life and the future.
