Easter--- how many of us know and understand the true meaning of the word? In many homes today- the children certainly know about the chocolate marshmallows, Easter bunny, Easter egg hunt, and wearing the new Easter finery on Easter Sunday. Are we doing our job to teach the children in our lives the true meaning of the word Easter and what it stands for?
The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's Victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during his ministry.
If HE had not risen from the dead, if He had just died and not been resurrected, he would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi.
The resurrection changed all that, and gave final proof that He was really The Son of God, and that he had conquered death once and for all.
The feast of Easter was originally a celebration of renewal and rebirth. Celebrated in the early spring, it honored the pagan Saxon goddess Eastre. When the early missionaries converted the Saxon's to Christianity, the holiday became known as Easter.
Today, the meaning of Easter is that of honoring and recognizing Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, and His glorious promises of eternal life for all those who believe in him.
Last week, I lost my father. His passing occurred 5 years after the death of my mother. Mom and Dad were incredible parent's and I feel so blessed to have been a part of our family and a part of their lives.
In my life, it brings me great comfort to know that we have the promise of Eternal Life if we only BELIEVE in him. I am not perfect in my eyes, or the eyes of anyone else who watches me, but in the eyes of the Lord, I will have eternal life if I BELIEVE.
To me- that means that along with all the other miracles that are going to be waiting for me in Heaven, I will once again be reunited with my dear Mother and Father and all the ones that I love so much for the rest of eternity.
Sunday, when the children are eating those colored jellybeans- carrying their Easter Basket's to find all those beautifully decorated eggs, and having a celebration, remind them of what the true meaning of Easter really is.
God Bless each and every one and have a wonderful Easter Holiday.
