Listen more than talk

People like people who listen more than talk. Ask questions and then ask more questions. You will learn alot about people. Most people are more interested in what they have to say than listening to what other people have to say. It is interesting to make a conscious effort to not talk about yourself and just listen to others and ask questions. You really find out how interested people are in you and what you have to say. I have learned alot about people by listening more and talking less. It also takes way less energy.

Lori,

Well said.  I try for my listen / talk ratio to be about 80% / 20%.  It's fascinating what you can learn when you really listen (and take notes).

Cheers,

Tom

Hey Lore - when you talk more than you listen you are telling and not selling.

Amen Lori!  This is great advice.  So many people just talk talk talk talk talk...  and they don't listen.

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

Great post Lori and oh, so true.  I try to only speak about 1/3 of the time when talking to clients. I want to know everything they are thinking. Most of my talking is in the realm of questions to get them to talk more.  The more they talk, the more they define their target area.  I won't pull out my bow and arrow of skills, techniques and thoughts until they give me a great bullseye.
