Most cities roll up their sidewalks and go home for the weekend.
Not so in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Here store owners take time off in the middle of the week but are open on Sundays. Especially on beautiful days like today, people will flock in from all over to amble down Ocean Avenue (which continues west to the Pacific Ocean), to see and be seen, many of them with their pooches. There are several little cafes along the avenue which do brisk business.
Many visitors come to Carmel to visit art galleries of which there are probably around 50 right now, half of those along Dolores Street between 5th and 7th Avenues (Dolores runs north to south bisecting Ocean Avenue). Check out the galleries on my website www.carmelartgalleries.com
My new brokerage office is in the northern third section of Dolores Avenue in Su Vecino Court which, in fact has two major galleries in it. James Riesser Gallery has been in Carmel-by-the-Sea for many years, exhibiting and selling Early California artists as well as well known contemporary ones.
On the other side of the the courtyard is Steven Whyte, an artist owned studio sculpture gallery where you can watch him work most days.
There are probably 10 restaurants between 5th and 7th streets on Dolores from simple little coffee shops to the venerated Tuck Box shown here. , restaurants with open air courtyards, one with elegant French cuisine, an Italian Bistro or two, and a deli with a few tables so you can design your own meal or take out.
Come stroll with me in Carmel-by-the-Sea today, Sunday.
