The Address That Does Not Exist OR The Hidden Treasure...

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Daytona Condo Realty, 386-405-4408

This is one of those "did you know?" kind of posts...

There is a listing in this beautiful condo building. Everything is fine, but when you click on the parcel ID, the county property appraiser’s page opens with “No parcels were found including the following search criteria: Parcel ID #_________________”

Hidden TreasureBy the way, the parcel ID looks fine, and absolutely real… I went to county Property Appraiser's page and checked all units, and no, I could not find this one. There is no record of this unit. This condo does not seem to exist... There are units under and above, but this one is not there. What is there now, a hole in the wall?

Weird. I am checking who the agent is, and there should not be a problem. He lives there and knows the property.

I know the property, too, and I know that this unit was there. What could have happened to it?

Is it a mistake?

No. The unit exists, and everything is fine with it.

The owner is a former Police officer and there is a law protecting law enforcement officers, so their record is not shown on the Property Appraiser’s site.

But the condo unit is there, and everything is OK with the condo.

Can I call it a Hidden Treasure? (LOL)

William - so far I am not sure I know the way to find the information about the unit.

Jack - this did not cross my mind. Probably wouldn't make much difference, of course, unless the county would wipe out the whole building?

Jon, I have never heard of this, very interesting about "ghost inventory" here in Marina Del Rey, there is a complex that has been around since the early 70's and they all do not hav public APN numbers (assessors parcel numbers) I am just thinking out loud Howard Hughes built it for his employees and then later it was converted to a Resort Style Condominium Complex....well you know he was very secretive & had some serious Government Connections, Endre

This is true for police, fireman and other federal officers in FL, Jon.  They get to withhold their property information from the public records for safety reasons.

You would think the property info could be shown with the owner's name and other identifying information kept confidential.

As usual, there always seem to be unintended consequences.

Ted - I guess when the County gets the request, they can only make the whole record invisible. I would think it would be great if they would have shown the property and not the owner name.

At least this way we would know that there is a condo with that number. After all, we do not care about the name that much.

Jon, that is what I was thinking when reading the post - that it was a law enforcement person who lived there. Yes, it's a 'hidden treasure' lol.

Sharon - as long as we interpret it right, it is fine. But it is so easy to get reeled and blame the agent for the wrong listing information...

Not really knowing any law enforcement people -- personally or otherwise -- I was completely unaware of this practice, but it makes sense.

Elizabeth - how many times I was thinking that I know now everything about something, like condos, and then a surprise. And I know that I know something...

And the more "something" we know, the better we are.

ibelieve this is what experience mean.
