Today is National Amber Alert Awareness Day

Annually on January 13^th, the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) observes the horrible day in 1996 when 9 year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted in Arlington, Texas, while riding her bicycle. Good things come from bad situations so after Amber’ abduction and brutal murder, the nationwide program was created called AMBER which stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response.

On this day, January 13^th of every year, we are reminded that we must commit ourselves to remain alert to each and every broadcast we see. We see Amber Alerts on Freeway Signs, Airport and Truck Signs, TV, Lottery Signs, Yahoo, Facebook, AOL, Radio and Law Enforcement broadcasts

Because of AMBER Alerts, 602 abducted children have been successfully recovered and brought home safely. See the chart below found on the Department of Justice’s website.
