Reminder to all Realtors – Watch your back when meeting customers

By
Real Estate Agent with A New View Realty, LLC

Recently in our county there has been a certain individual that has been calling around to female Realtors in the area and asking them to come to his home to list his house.  He always wants an appointment that is fairly quickly, like that day or within a couple of hours.  The first Realtor he called went to the house and was lured into the home to find the man standing there in his underwear. He proceeded to try and coerce her into the bedroom saying there was something in the master bedroom he wanted to show her.  Luckily the agent made an excuse to go back to her car and immediately called her office and let them know what was happening.  The gentleman was standing at the front door in his underwear as she drove off.

That same gentlemen continued to contact other Realtors in the area and give them the same story.  Luckily our board sent out a warning and the other agents did not go to the appointment.

I myself received a call from the gentlemen just this morning and immediately contacted the police.  This is a reminder to everyone to make sure someone in your office knows where you are going and how long you expect to be there.  There are a lot of crazy people out there and Realtors are a prime target because most of our business is done alone.  So to all my fellow Realtors, be safe and always let someone know where you are!

Leniece...it's good to hear that the authorities have been contacted.  Actions such as he displayed are unacceptable, and some hungry "newbie" may be to excited to think first.  BE SAFE!

I let my husband know who I'm going to meet and where, with all the details I have on them (and this includes new buyers if we're not meeting at the office - preferred but not always possible), and he calls me about ten minutes after I'm supposed to meet them so that I can let him know everything's okay.  So far, there hasn't been a problem, but we're aware that there could be.

That is crazy.  I am glad you got a heads up on this.  Hopefully the man will stop and get some help.

Good reminder. We all, even us of the male persuasion, need to be aware of this.

Yes this man positions himself as a seller.  He calls to set up a listing appointment because he is wanting to relocate.  Another alarm that we were able to pin point is the address he gives for the home is actually registered to someone else as the owner.  So far we have determined that he is staying at his brothers house both no one knows where his brother is.  Very wierd...

That is creepy.  Keep us update.  Hopefully no one will fall for his possible trap.
