30 Books, 31 Years, and 32 Sales...

Real Estate Agent with Amerivest Realty

Well, I finally got around to posing next to the stack of books I read last year.

I read 30 books in 2013 (as opposed to the 33 I read last year).  However... I closed 32 transactions in 2013 (as opposed to the 24 sales I closed in 2012).  So....  I'm not going to complain about having made it through a few fewer books.

I know you're itching to know... Which ones were my favorites???

In no particular order:

Queen of the Road by Doreen Orion - made me want to sell everything I own and ride around in an RV with Matt for the rest of our lives.

Zeitoun by Dave Eggers - a Hurricane Katrina story!

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok, and The Center of Everything (which I've read twice now) by Laura Moriarty - I'm lumping these all together because they're really pretty similar in theme/voice.  There's just something I love about stories told from the perspective of a naive child...

Good Grief by Lolly Winston - a sad, thought-provoking read, but surprisingly enjoyable.

And my least favorites:

Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger - TERRIBLE.  Terribly written... terrible story.  I'm embarrassed to have wasted any amount of time reading this.... I'm embarrassed that it sits on my bookshelf...

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn - Sorry, Norah Jones.  I know you said in some magazine article that this was your favorite book.... My imagination just doesn't stretch quite that far.  Kind of made me think of Middlesex... but I remember liking Middlesex more.

Swamplandia by Karen Russell - another example of me having a weak imagination.  Matt suggested this one after our visit to Wooton's alligator farm/airboat rides/swamp buggy rides over the summer.  (  Just couldn't wrap my head around the haunted boat....

I've already finished two books so far this year (both about Hurricane Katrina) and I'm about half-way through New Sales. Simplified. by Mike Weinberg.  (And... as of the writing of this - I'm still ranked #1 in our Realtor board!)  We'll see how long I can keep up this pace:)

I love reading books. We have to cull our three book shelves yearly. I have a secret stash of books in my closet. I am going to put them in a sealed box with those little packets that absorb moisture so they will not get mildewed. Sadly our part of Texas is very humid and stuff mold very quickly.

I am going to check out the first list you made. Have you read Alya of the Clan of the Cave Bear?  It is an old series of four books and I have read all of them three or four times.
