I visited the Broadway Centre Cinemas for the first time on the weekend and felt like it was worthy of a blog - I just want to share with you what a great experience it was. It brought me back to when I was a teenager - when movie theaters where still sort of quaint and cozy (definitely didn't feel quaint at the time!).
Walking into the Broadway Centre Cinemas (located at 111 E Broadway in Downtown Salt Lake City) you're greeted by a very humble entrance. Nothing fancy, no arcade game area, no computer screen to choose your seats... just an old fashioned ticket booth. Once you get through the doors, (I think this was my favorite part... seriously) - a sweet little lady who is sitting in a chair greets you to take your ticket. How cute is that?? Loved it. Once in, you're tempted by an amazing snack bar - a wide array of Ritter chocolate, gummys, snacks, bags of gourmet popcorn (and the real deal if you want it) and a great drink selection! It was really a unique place to be.
Ticket prices are $9.25 General Public (film begins at or after 6:00 pm), $6.75 Matinee (show begins before 6:00 pm) - not bad prices right?
The theater itself? Well... again, it's quaint. But really, what more do you need? It's a big screen, good sound - just seems that society has told us we need to get bigger and better all the time. These theaters did the trick! They recently had a kickstarter campaign which will allow them to upgrade some of their screens. Read about it here.
What's really cool about this place is that it's owned by the Salt Lake Film Society - you're supporting the community - and who doesn't like to support the arts?
Here's a little more about this fantastic society - their website reads, "The mission of Salt Lake Film Society is to be the premier film establishment of the Salt Lake City community. We promote diversity of film exhibition and creation. We educate, advocate, and inform about and through cinema. We foster film talent and cultivate film appreciation and participation. Our programs and venues ensure that the potent ideas and voices of film are accessible to everyone in our community.
SLFS’ mission goes far beyond offering diverse, high quality film programming year round. SLFS provides a meeting place, a modern day “town hall” where people can discuss and debate the diverse variety of topics that cinema brings to life. Promoting the art of film at every level, SLFS programs support new and established filmmakers and cultivate audiences of all ages keeping the magic of the big screen alive."
All in all, it was a GREAT experience! I love giving back to the community, the arts, and supporting local businesses. If you'd like to support them as well, I invite you to become a member! There are many different levels of support that you can give them from $50 annually to $5,000 - here's a Salt Lake Film Society Member breakdown here .
I would DEFINITELY recommend catching a movie there - it's a feel good kind of place! And if I see you there - I promise to buy you a popcorn!!
