Signage in Carmel-by-the-Sea comes in many forms, some unregulated

Starting a new business in Carmel-by-the-Sea? Signage becomes an issue because it needs to be approved by City Hall.

Even those who have been in business for many years, find ways around the stringent rules and regulations. Some put signage away from the windows and doors, further into their space, but the powers that be are wise to that. You will probably get a notice of non-compliance. (Too many signs, too big, wrong lighting, etc.) All signs affixed to the building, door & window and entrance to courtyard or on the street are regulated.

One way to advertise your business which can't be regulated by the City Fathers (and mothers) is what you put on your car. Not only do the cars below show the name of the business, but they are so cute, people will have their photo taken with them.

The only problem is that the business district of Carmel-by-the-Sea has a 2-hour parking limit, so you can see the owners of the cars scurrying around re-parking them all day long. Still, it's a wonder not more businesses have taken advantage of this loophole.

 Something to think about!

What a clever use of signage in Carmel-by-the-Sea Hella. I would think that many others would be doing the same.

Interesting, Hella. We have a number of communities here that are pretty strict about signgae - size, where it can be placed, etc.

Do they regular real estate signs? Again, here there are some high end communities RE signs are not allowed at all.

I agree with Tom - some very clever signage being use.

Hella signage can be an issue in many communities, it sure pays to be creative and using the car is one way.

Tom: I'm not sure how this would go over with a brokerage, one would need a memorable car to start with. Hm...

Jeff: Have not seen restrictions of RE signs, although the ones I've seen have cost a bi more; not those ordinary stuck in the ground yard signs in those million dollar plus homes.

Rebecca: Open House signs are ok.

Jennifer: Signage in the commercial district is tough. And that includes any LIGHTING on a sign. No neon signs here!!!

Hella there are many restrictions in my market area too, for example in Beverly Hills you even have to have a permit on real estate signs and the size is very specific too. Needless to say this type of marketing was prevalent in Europe about ten years ago and now we see it every where. Funny you did this post...I have two in the works about something similar:))Endre
