When Real Estate Gets Sidetracked By.......Real Estate

By
Industry Observer

I've been reading and occasionally commenting on posts in the last few weeks, but haven't posted for way too long.  And the truth is that I have been WAY sidetracked by real estate.  Some is the normal kind of working with buyers and sellers and managing transactions in process - par for the course for those of us who have real estate businesses.

But it is another kind of real estate that has had me kind of missing in action from the blog post front.  And that kind of real estate is being in the process of having a new house built for my husband and me.  Oh my gosh it is fun!  And wow is it exciting!  (Also exhausting, time consuming, occasionally frustrating or full on terrifying!).

So far we have closed on the purchase of our lot as of December 31st (way to end up 2013, huh?).  Now we have finalized the floor plan with our contractors, who also did the custom design work for us.  That involved more measuring of current spaces and furniture and thinking of more details than I can hardly believe.

But floor plan complete - check!  Floor plans turned into the city for their plan review process - check!  Floor plans, detailed material specs, construction contract, and all the myriad of items of paperwork for our construction loan turned in - check!

Decisions made about kitchen cabinets, counters & backsplash; materials for both bathrooms (well, except for the master bath vanity - but we are narrowed to only 3 or 4); flooring everywhere; appliances.  Options sort of kind of narrowed down for light fixtures, paint colors, and landscaping.

But all of these decisions not only take sheer time, but a whole lot of energy.  I could tell I was over my limit for decision making a few weeks ago when our builder asked me if I had picked out door knobs.  My reaction?  "Doorknobs - are you kidding me???  Just surprise me!"  LOL

So, that, in a nut shell is why I have had no energy for blogging recently.  But I promise to include some updates with pictures as we get rolling on this project.  And maybe even some regular posts about regular real estate too - who knows!

I have been going through the same thing Nancy. I do get a lot of material for blogging through my day to day contact with clients and the circumstances of doing real estate.

BTW you've been missed!

Thank you Bill!  And yes, I know once construction begins I will be driving by daily to see the changes, and wishing it could all happen even faster!  Of course, I have my work cut out for me to sort thru basically everything at our current house to make sure we are only moving what really is still needed and loved.  That should keep me occupied!

Oh wow Nancy!  How exciting!  When I became the buyer and was building my new home, I blogged about the experience with pictures and the neighborhood...it was a lot of fun and I was able to share the experience and let my consumers know that I knew just how they were feeling.

So I'm saying Pictures Nancy...we want Pictures lol :)!  Much luck to you in the building of your new home!!

Thanks Joe! And I agree that, busy or not, blogging is an important part of my business - so I definitely will carve out time here & there around the edges. As well as incorporating what all is happening in our house building project! Have a great weekend!

Hi Suzanne - and thanks! I suspect that picking out doorknobs won't be nearly as tricky as choosing paint colors.....so hard to imagine a tiny sample size color on an entire wall or room. I'll definitely be dragging along a few friends with great eyes for color just to help on that step!
