Potholes Can Become Very Apparent
Have you ever driven in your neighborhood or somewhere else near home and wished at least one or more potholes would get repaired? Unfortunately, there happen to be not only one but two potholes within one city block of each other on my street and also within one to two blocks from my home.
Above is an example of a pothole that needs to be repaired in the City of Richmond.
In case you may have encountered a similar situation of finding a pothole in your area, I just found out how to submit an online street repair request for residents within the City of Richmond. Even if you live in another municipality within Virginia or elsewhere, the following information could be helpful or a rough guideline for submitting a request for street repair.
Learn Steps to Submit a Pothole Repair Request
If you happen to live in the City of Richmond yourself and also found a pothole within city limits, here's a list of six things you can do online:
1) In your browser, type www.richmond.gov, and wait for page to
appear.
2) Next, on the Government tab near the top of the page, move your
mouse over it, so that a pull down screen with choices appears.
3) Under the Agencies category, select Public Works.
4) Once you get to the Public Works page, select the Further Assistance
Contacts rectangle found at the left side of the page.
5) Once you get to the Further Assistance Contacts page, select the
second choice: Citizen's Request or CRS.
6) Finally, follow the steps for creating your own account by using your
email address and creating a password. Once you fill in your contact
information on the online form, you can proceed with describing the
street repair situation you wish to report.
Above is a second pothole near my home that's less severe but still needs to be repaired.
The system allowed me to report one of the two potholes on my street this afternoon. (Hopefully, someone else already reported the other pothole nearby.) Fortunately, I did receive an automated Customer Service email with my request number and confirmation indicated. It also noted the date of my request and the estimated completion date for the repair. Remarkably, there also was a link in that Customer Service email that would allow me to review the status of my repair request in the coming days and weeks ahead.
Otherwise, if you prefer to speak to someone over the phone rather than submitting a repair request online, there's a phone number available. For the Department of Public Works (DPW) for the City of Richmond the phone number at the director's office is: (804) 646-3702. In other areas, there also would most likely be a Public Works phone number available for those local residents to use.
Potholes Can Be Dangerous
Potholes can be nuisance and even cause serious damage to a vehicle. Also, potholes can be a safety hazard for cyclists and pedestrians. By reporting potholes when you see them, you not only help yourself, but also your neighbors around you likely would be helped (and be appreciative) by having any serious or potentially serious potholes repaired.
Safe Roads Can Help our Local Economies
Needless to say, having a responsive Public Works department that makes street repair a priority is crucial. Our homes, offices and neighborhoods depend on having high quality, safe roads in order to help attract visitors, retain satisfied residents and business owners and maintain a vibrant and highly functional economy!
