But when we walk into a place like The Kopper Top located in the Stockbridge Neighborhood, and sit under the unique canopy of lights commemorating whatever holiday is imminent, or enjoy the coldest beer we have ever had in one of the oldest taverns in town at The Pickwick, located in the revitalized East Hills Neighborhood, we are SOMEBODY.
Frequent these places often enough - and who wouldn't? and eventually, we have a favorite table, waitress, and meal. Just like Cheers everybody knows your name.
Now when I go to Jersey Junction, located in East Grand Rapids, indulge in an ice cream and think of all the times I sat there with my Dad who ordered one cone for himself, one for me, and one for my dog—Clooney, I know what it is to be SOMEBODY.
Or when I watch a film in the historic Wealthy Theatre, located in the Wealthy Theatre District, I know that my being there makes a neighborhood stronger, that I am important to the place were I live and work and play.
People know my name. We talk. We laugh. We share. Therefore, I exist – I AM SOMEBODY! And it is in these places that I feel love and joy and alive. And isn't that what life is all about?
to be continued..
